5 Packing Tips for Fall - Bulky Items
Many people can’t wait for Sweater Weather, but traveling with these sweaters and other bulkier cold-weather clothing items and accessories can present some issues when trying to fit everything you need in your suitcase. The A|S Team is sharing 5 tips and tricks to not only help you properly pack your suitcase, but also make sure your items do not get damaged from the packing process.
Focus on Multi-Wear Pieces
Selecting clothing and accessories that you can wear multiple times and in multiple ways during your trip is key to saving space in your suitcase. Find the pieces in your wardrobe that work in a variety of different dress code and weather settings and can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Planning outfits ahead of time will allow you to properly edit out the pieces that would only be worn once.
Use Packing Cubes
Packing cubes help provide organization within your suitcase. Smaller clothing items and undergarments can be packed together in these cubes to prevent them from moving around while your suitcase is in transit. They also make unpacking at your destination a breeze, since the cubes can be easily transferred into a dresser or shelf while remaining organized.
Wear your Bulkiest Items on the Plane
Avoid packing your heavy coat or the bulkiest sweater by simply wearing those on the airplane instead. Obviously, you do not want to sacrifice your comfort on the plane, especially if you have a longer travel time, but consider eliminating some of the bulk in your bag by wearing one or two of these items instead of packing them away.
Leave the Delicates at Home
Those cashmere sweaters and other delicate items are an investment that you do not want to ruin. The delicate weaves and fabrics can get misshapen or damaged as you pack clothing in and around these items. Best to leave these items at home, unless they are absolutely necessary for your outfit.
Use Vacuum Bags
Vacuum bags are a definite space saver as they drastically decrease the volume that your clothing items will take up by removing the air from the contents of the bag. Many of these bags are waterproof too. Be sure to find the kind of space saving bag that does not actually require a vacuum, if there are no guarantees you will have access to one at your destination!
