closet audit client recap
Curious about our Wardrobe Consultation & Closet Audit package? Check out our detailed recap from our most recent appointment for this service!
The Wardrobe Consultation & Closet Audit package includes a full review of a client’s current wardrobe to identify items suitable for donation or that need to be tossed and then the A|S Team expertly organizes the remaining clothing back into the closets and dressers. Our most recent appointment for this service was for a returning client. We completed this same package a few seasons ago and we were very excited to be invited back!
Our first step was to purge all the items that needed to be either donated or tossed. We started this step by emptying the closets and dressers and worked with the client to identify if the item should be kept, donated, or tossed. The key to this step is keeping a steady momentum. Of course items with emotional attachment take time and consideration, but generally it’s important to go with your initial reaction and trust your gut to make a quick decision. We kept a running list of items that needed to be tossed or donated, but the client would like to replace to better suit their current needs.
The questions considered when trying to identify if an item should be kept, donated, or tossed included:
Does this item fit my body as it is now?
Does this item fit my current style?
Have I worn this item in the past few months?
Our client had a goal of donating or tossing two-thirds of their current wardrobe. This was an ambitious goal, but very achievable. With the goal in mind and keeping with the steady momentum, we were able to donate or toss well above two-thirds of their wardrobe. In fact, we were able to donate 16 lawn-size bags full of clothes, shoes, and accessories!
The next step was to categorize the remaining items in order to properly strategize how to organize the existing closet and dresser space to fit the newly purged wardrobe. Our client had two closets and a dresser available to organize her wardrobe into. Since we achieved her goal of purging two-thirds of her wardrobe, we were left with ample space for the items that were kept to be neatly organized, easily seen, and easily accessible. For this client’s space, organizational bins were needed to not only help contain the items on the shelves, but also provide a functional system that will help our client keep the space organized.
The final step was to re-introduce the client to their new organized wardrobe! We provided an overview of the logical zones we created based on the feedback we received from the client on how they get dressed in the morning (or any time of day for any kind of event) and what style of clothing took precedence over others. We also discussed how to properly utilize the bins that were used for everyday items; taking the entire bin out to select the item and then placing the bin back once done. This was the system needed to ensure everything stays organized for seasons to come.
After everything was organized and back in the closets and dressers, we hauled the 16 bags of donations away so that our client could start enjoying her new wardrobe with no lingering items leftover in the space. The best part of the process, aside from the satisfying Before & After, was seeing how excited our client was to get dressed and start using her newly organized closet!
